K2View Q&A Series: What is DataOps?

Written by Sarah Carlton | June 2, 2020

This week we had a chance to speak with Dominic Garcia, K2View's Head of Marketing, on DataOps. In the video, we discussed the innovation of DataOps, as well as how K2View fits into the picture.

SC: What is DataOps?

DG: DataOps is a methodology focused on how to address the data needs of organizations by delivering the right data, to the right place, at the right time.

SC: What makes DataOps different from other data management processes?

DG: With DataOps, organizations have the opportunity to become data-centric. Currently, many companies are constrained by legacy approaches to data management that depend on applications rather than data being readily available on-demand, and once we begin to consider "why DataOps," we start to think about the problem differently.

SC: When you say, "think differently about the problem," what do you mean?

DG: The starting point for DataOps is thinking differently about data. So instead of using a more segmented, traditional methodology to manage data, organizations need to switch to a holistic system that allows access to the right data at the right time.

When this change in how we think about data is applied, it enables us to directly consider how we can solve the problem with the data as opposed to having to wonder where the data is stored and how it can be accessed.

SC: What does K2View bring to DataOps?

DG: K2View fills the data gap between application-centric and data-centric methodologies. If an organization needs holistic, real-time access to data, K2View uses the Digital Entity. All of the relevant data for an item is stored in the Digital Entity and can be pulled to support the customer's needs on-demand.

SC: You mentioned "Digital Entity," what is this?

DG: Digital Entity is the digital version of a person, place, or thing. The Digital Entity supplies the business with specific data immediately and in a comprehensive view.
